During his time as the Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature, DuWayne Gregory has acted as a trustworthy advocate for important environmental protections. He has improved storm preparedness, safeguarded our drinking water, and delivered new parkland among other initiatives.
Combating Climate Change
Climate change is a real, demonstrable scientific phenomenon. It is also one of the most important issues facing our community and our nation. As a coastal community, we face challenges posed by accelerated sea level rise, extreme weather conditions, intensifying heat waves and other issues related to climate change. If we fail to take proactive measures against environmental change, then we, along with future generations, will pay the price.
President Trump continues to claim that climate change is a ‘hoax’, and under his watch, the EPA has ceased programs and initiatives put forward by the Obama Administration meant to curb the effects of climate change. President Trump has foolishly decided to leave the Paris Climate Accords, leaving the United States on an ill-informed ideological island while our allies work alongside one another to preserve the planet.
When elected to Congress, DuWayne will strongly support America rejoining the Paris Climate Accords. DuWayne will also support any legislation which takes proactive steps toward addressing climate change, such as investment into renewable energy and enacting protective measures against rising sea levels.
Every individual deserves access to clean drinking water, affordable housing, and clean air. Lead in the drinking water in our schools is simply unacceptable. DuWayne will demand that all our schools provide students with safe drinking water that is free from harmful toxins.
DuWayne will ensure that environmental burdens aren’t shouldered disproportionately by low-income communities--be that by corporations disposing of waste, harmful truck routes, or more.
